About the Department

Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has started functioning from the year of 2008, offering B.E. degree programme in Mechanical Engineering and M.E.-Industrial Safety Engineering. The annual intake in U.G was 60. The Post Graduate Programme was established in the year 2019-20 in M.E.-Industrial Safety Engineering with the annual intake of 18.

The department has highly qualified and well experienced faculties specialized in areas like Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Design, Thermal Engineering, Industrial Safety, CAD/CAM, Refrigeration and Air conditioning and Energy Engineering. The Department is well equipped with excellent laboratory facilities with adequate technical supporting staff. The Department consists of erudite faculty members, who are constantly engaged in undertaking research work of original nature and subsequent publications. Many of the members of the faculty have earned to their credit quite a number of research papers published in the national and international journals of repute.

Department of Mechanical Engineering is Accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi.

Programme Overviews

PEO1: Mechanical Systems Design, Analysis, and Manufacturing

Graduates will be able to apply fundamental and advanced mechanical engineering principles to design, model, analyse, and optimize mechanical components and systems, and to develop solutions in thermal, fluid, and manufacturing domains using modern engineering tools and industry-standard practices while considering technical, economic, environmental, and societal factors.

PSO 2 – Professional Engineering Practice and Lifelong Learning

Graduates will demonstrate the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary environments, uphold ethical and professional responsibilities, communicate engineering concepts clearly, and engage in continuous learning to adapt to emerging technologies and evolving challenges in mechanical engineering.

PEO1: Graduates of the Mechanical Engineering Programme will have the technical expertise, interpersonal skills, and moral principles necessary to succeed in their positions and provide solutions to societal, environmental, and engineering problems in the organizations.

PEO2: Successful graduates of the Mechanical Engineering Programme will pursue further studies.

PEO3: The Mechanical Engineering Programme graduates will emerge as employers to create jobs for talented and needy students.

PO1: Engineering Knowledge: Apply knowledge of mathematics, natural science, computing, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization as specified in WK1 to WK4 respectively to develop to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO2: Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions with consideration for sustainable development. (WK1 to WK4)

PO3: Design/Development of Solutions: Design creative solutions for complex engineering problems and design/develop systems/components/processes to meet identified needs with consideration for the public health and safety, whole-life cost, net zero carbon, culture, society and environment as required. (WK5)

PO4: Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: Conduct investigations of complex engineering problems using research-based knowledge including design of experiments, modelling, analysis & interpretation of data to provide valid conclusions. (WK8).

PO5: Engineering Tool Usage: Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering & IT tools, including prediction and modelling recognizing their limitations to solve complex engineering problems. (WK2 and WK6)

PO6: The Engineer and The World: Analyze and evaluate societal and environmental aspects while solving complex engineering problems for its impact on sustainability with reference to economy, health, safety, legal framework, culture and environment. (WK1, WK5, and WK7).

PO7: Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics, human values, diversity and inclusion; adhere to national & international laws. (WK9)

PO8: Individual and Collaborative Team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse/multi-disciplinary teams.

PO9: Communication: Communicate effectively and inclusively within the engineering community and society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations considering cultural, language, and learning differences

PO10: Project Management and Finance: Apply knowledge and understanding of engineering management principles and economic decision-making and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, and to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

Placement

A dedicated, full-time placement wing is working for the purpose of providing training and placement for the Mechanical Engineering students. The placement cell is active in bringing experts from the Core Mechanical Engineering Companies and also from IT industry for training them. The placement cell facilitates the interaction between the industry and institution.

11 batches of students have gone out from the department and they are well settled in Core Mechanical Engineering companies like Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors and also in IT companies like TCS, CTS, Wipro and Accenture.

Yokesh Kumar and Dr. Thirugnanam S, Experimental Investigation on the Effect of Heat Treatment on Aluminium Hybrid Composites Reinforced with Graphite and Aluminium Oxide received a fund of Rs. 10,000 for this project from Tamil Nadu State Council for Science & Technology, STUDENT PROJECT SCHEME 2017-2018.
